The marvellous and magical: collage and the moving image
Fiona West
Fiona West works with photography, video, and installation to explore representations of nostalgia and melancholy. Handcrafted tableaus of string, twine, cloth, pipe cleaner, plastic, paper (among other domestic items) create a dynamic yet dreamlike encounter, rich with colour, movement, and texture.
Not quite there
Nick Ashby, Sharna Barker, Leah Emery, Timothy Fairless, Genevieve Memory, Vicky Satchwell, Joe Swepson, Leisa Turner
Working across textiles, installation, sculpture, photography, video, sound, and painting, the artists in this group show are preoccupied with the body. Some bodies are clothed, others not. Some are implied, but absent – whose clothes are these, whose shoes? Some are whole, some are broken, while others have been meticulously repaired. Some are static, some are in flux. Some are real, others mere simulacra. These bodies and their traces, disconcerted in their surroundings, are re-viewed with new eyes.
ReKalibrating Kantha at Logan
Natasha Narain
ReKalibratng Kantha reclaims a traditional form of hand embroidery from Bengal, South Asia known as Kantha. Kantha once formed a significant part of a wedding trousseau and symbolised resilience, renewal, and nurture. Narain’s work expands on these themes to reflect the artist’s current cultural landscape. In addition to the exhibition, Narain will develop new work at Logan Art Gallery as part of a RADF supported Artist in Residence program.
Workshop wonders XXII
Workshop Wonders is Logan Art Gallery’s annual exhibition of workshop outcomes. It celebrates the joy of art making while allowing attendees an opportunity to see their work in a public gallery. Logan Art Gallery’s dedicated program of workshop activities accompany its exhibitions and are often presented by exhibiting artists.
