Alvin Rostant
Experience the incredible journey of Sweet Singing Steel, a dynamic multimedia presentation showcasing 18 original compositions by one of Trinidad and Tobago’s brightest talents – Alvin Rostant.
A professional musician, pannist, vocalist, award-winning steel pan composer and arranger, MC, and entertainer based in Australia, he is affectionately known as Alvin. The steelpan, a unique instrument originating from Trinidad and Tobago, is his musical canvas.
The innovative format of this performance creates a deep connection between performer and audience, bringing music to life in an extraordinary way. In this 1.5-hour presentation, Alvin spans 4 decades of compositions, including timeless pieces from his albums “Calypso Mambo” and “Rise,” the award-winning PANZfest 2015 Champion arrangement “De Band Coming,” the reigning Australian Calypso Monarch song “Ah Trini Life,” and recent singles recorded with iconic producer Ibo Joseph in Trinidad and Tobago.
Alvin’s remarkable career has taken him on tours across the USA, Canada, Asia, and the South Pacific with Amral’s Trinidad Calypso Cavaliers Steelband. As an accomplished Intercollege Soccer player for Trinidad and Tobago, Alvin’s versatility shines both on and off the stage.
Honoured with the Australian Prime Minister’s Award for Community in 2001 for his work on Mission Australia’s “Beat of the Drum” project, Alvin’s impact resonates far and wide. He has performed the WI Cricket Anthem at the MCG, WACA Ground, and GABA, and proudly represented the Caribbean at the 2018 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony. Today, he continues his role as Australia’s Ambassador of the Steel Drum.
In 2024, Alvin graced the Australian Embassy in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, performing National Anthems for both nations in celebration of “50 years of Trade.”
